Cowlitz Clean Waters Video Contest
Cowlitz Clean Waters invites local high school and college students to help protect our waters by creating a 15-60 second video showing how simple acts can make big impacts on our local rivers. We'll award a $300 and $150 Amazon card to two winners and automatically enter all videos into a People's Choice contest for a $75 gift card. Hazard Mitigation Grant
We were recently awarded advance assistance funds through FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The grant will help us conduct a Benefit-Cost Analysis to support an application for a permanent standby generator that will provide emergency power to our main pump station during a major outage.
Mt. St. Helens Sediment Management
Sediment deposits from the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens create an ongoing threat of flooding to downstream communities. The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is evaluating ways to manage flood risk for Castle Rock, Lexington, Kelso and Longview. Access the full article.
Cowlitz River Survey
The USACE’s most recent hydrosurvey of the Cowlitz River was conducted in July, 2024 to evaluate current flood protection levels. The results of the survey are expected to be released in March, 2025.
Cowlitz Clean Waters Calendar Contest
Cowlitz Clean Waters invites middle school students to help protect our waters by submitting original artwork and short poems that are featured in "Solutions to Stormwater Pollution" Calendar. A recognition event is held in January each year to recognize students’ contributions, announce winners and award prizes totaling over $3,000.
